As you may recall, God placed a young adults ministry on my heart. Originally, it was going to focus on young women. However, through a series of events, soul searching, prayer, and God’s grace, He has shown me that the ministry needs to include young men as well. This past spring, Mother’s’ Day morning, God revealed that, through all the difficulties and pain I’ve endured the past few years, He has been refining me for His greater purpose. I can’t explain the joy, peace, and relief I had that morning. So, in answering His call, Pathlight Ministries began.
“…but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Romans 5:3b-5 (NIV)
Through prayer and the advice of Christian mentors, the ministry is taking shape. As you know, “instant gratification” is a mouse click away these days. It’s so easy to want everything to happen as quickly as the results of an Internet search. I’m striving to slow down and do things right…God’s way, and not mine. This is one of the things that has proven the most difficult for me, along with finding the confidence that God can use me, with all my failures and flaws, to further His Kingdom. My high school guidance counselor always told me that “haste makes waste.” I’ve never liked that saying, but I definitely see truth in it. I’m trying to learn from the “waste,” and even use it for improvement. So, like me, the ministry is a work in progress. While the website is live, it’s constantly being updated when God directs.
“I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from Him.” Psalm 62:1 (NLT)
“Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.” Psalm 37:7 (NASB, 1995).
The mission of Pathlight Ministries is to provide encouragement, support, and resources to help young people stay rooted in faith and involved in their local church after graduating high school. Visions for the future include working alongside parents and churches to include child and youth participation in Sunday services, a program to encourage and facilitate Christian mentorships, and a audio podcast Bible study. Current offerings include “The Weekly Word,” our quarterly newsletter, and a “Resources” page.
God has instructed us to find a community of believers that can help to guide us and sharpen our faith. If you are a young adult who would like to connect with us, or if you would be interested in Mentoring a young person, please reach out to us at connect@pathlightministries.org. If there is a particular area of the Bible you’d like to study with us via our podcast, please let us know that as well!
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV)
“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” Proverbs 27:17 (NLT)
“For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.” Matthew 18:20 (NASB, 1995)
Dear Heavenly Father, I humbly come to You with praise and thanksgiving. Thank You for those who took the time to read this post. Thank You for all of the students, young adults, parents, and mentors You will send to the Ministry. Thank You for giving me yet another chance to serve You and others, in spite of my mistakes and imperfections. I love You so much, and I’m grateful You have entrusted this Ministry to me. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
