As many of you know, I am a Youth Group leader at my church. Although I have stepped back a bit lately for health reasons, I am working with the students in other ways by teaching Sunday School when needed and holding a Bible study for some of the female students. I’m also very much looking forward to accompanying a group of students to a CIY Conference in July!
Lately, God has been nudging me to begin a women’s ministry. Of course me being well, me, I was having doubts. I have continually prayed for discernment and guidance. I have been asking Him to show me what He wants to accomplish through the ministry.
Recently, I had a conversation with one of the young ladies in our youth group. She is a high school senior, and she expressed concern about losing her faith once she left high school and began her journey into adulthood.
This really struck me. As far as I can tell, there aren’t a whole lot of spiritual resources and support systems for young women and men finishing high school and entering adulthood. Additionally, I have had several good friends indicate that they share my concerns about the lack of support for teens and young adults.
Through prayerful consideration, soul-searching, tears, and doubts, the ministry is slowly coming together. I asked my sister if she would come along side me, and thankfully she agreed. We are developing a Christian ministry to encourage, guide, and support young women during the transitional years between high school and college/adulthood. Because the needs of these young women extend far beyond my own church, our ministry will be available online for all.
I reached out to a wonderful friend and Christian mentor for some advice. She began an incredible ministry about 18 years ago that has grown to have world-wide exposure. During our conversation, God was offering His support through some verses He gave her to share with me. I would like to share those here with you.
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin…” Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, this is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21 (NIV)
“Let us not become weary in going good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
Although I’m still having doubts, and I have absolutely no idea what the ministry will ultimately look like, I’m answering God’s call, and I’m obediently following His nudging. I humbly ask for your prayers during this exciting, albeit terrifying, time for my sister and me.
Dear Heavenly Father, as your humble servant, I ask you to bless the person reading this. Thank you for my incredible sister and her never-ending support. I ask that you continue to guide us on this journey. Please give us discernment, and direct our paths. It is in Your precious Son Jesus’s name I pray, Amen.
